List Info (What is appropriate to post here)
--------------------------------------------

The focus of the ASPNGMob list is to discuss the development of websites and
applications using the Microsoft Mobile Internet Toolkit (MMIT) and the .NET
Compact Framework (.netCF). Appropriate topics of discussion may include:
* Mobile Web Forms
* .NET Compact Framework (XML, Web Services etc focused on .netCF)
* Smart Device Extensions for Visual Studio.Net
* Mobile usability guidelines as related to .Net enabled sites/applications
* Mobile Simulators as it relates to .Net Mobile App/Web Testing

Mobile .net related information links have been updated at:

Mobile .net related listing of books have been updated at:

Related Lists
----------------
The soon to be released (hopefully) RTM version of the .net Compact
Framework is a subset of the full .Net framework that will run on a pocket
pc. Just like the full Framework, the CompactFW gives you the ability to
manipulate xml and consume web services. If your interests lean in that
direction, you may want to check out the .Net Xml list at
http://www.learnasp.com/aspfriends/aspngxml.asp and the .Net Web services
list at http://www.learnasp.com/aspfriends/aspngwebservices.asp. There are
some rather smart people on both lists who can help you come up to speed or
answer any of your questions.

Thank You
---------------
A general thank you to everyone who has pitched in to answer questions. But
also wanted to take this opportunity to especially thank Shanku Niyogi and
George Yan, both from Microsoft, for all of the time and effort they've
devoted to answering questions.

Posting Rule Clarification
-------------------------------

As noted above in the List Info section, the focus of this list is .net
Mobile Development and our goal is to provide you with a 100% of answered
questions. To maintain the high quality and low noise on the list, not to
mention keeping the mobile experts on this list happy :), it is sometimes
necessary to redirect some of the questions that come into the list.

The two items that tend to become the most confusing at times are:
* Mobile usability guidelines as related to .Net enabled sites/applications
* Mobile Simulators as it relates to .Net Mobile App/Web Testing

I just wanted to take this opportunity to clarify the intent behind the two
sections and to explain what is acceptable for discussion on this specific
list.

Mobile usability guidelines should be discussed in the context of either
MMIT or SDE. For ex. Use of a specific control makes a certain content much
more usable in a Micro-browser application. We are not a design list, so
questions and discussion threads that are pure design focused will be very
closely monitored and may be redirected. Having said that, if there is
enough interest in having pure mobile design discussions, we can explore the
possibility of starting a separate list dedicated solely to that aspect of
mobile development.

Mobile Simulator/Emulator discussions should be in the context of Using the
emulator to test .net mobile apps and to discuss the availability of various
emulators. In the past we have allowed discussions that dealt with
installation and troubleshooting of emulators. That really is outside the
scope of this list. I've been guilty as charged on this particular item in
the past, but will be looking to correct that and tighten up the moderation
on this topic in the future.

One additional point to mention is that development for the PocketPC,
Handheld PC and the Smart phone 2002 using current embedded tools and
technologies are outside the scope of this list and will be redirected to
http://www.aspfriends.com/aspfriends/mobilewin.asp which exists purely to
discusses Mobile Windows. Of course, once the Compact Framework is
released, we will indeed encourage development discussions using the SDE and
the Compact Framework for these devices.

A Call to Authors
------------------
Mobile development using .net Technologies is a very interesting topic that
people cannot get enough of - OK, at least me :) - If you are a book or
article author and have written about something that deals specifically with
our topics of discussion (whether it be a sample book chapter, a magazine
article etc), I encourage you to drop us a line with the link. Also, if you
have a new book/resource becoming available with a .net Mobile focus, please
do let us know so that we can check it out.
