I put this out to list a while back and did not get an answer.

I am having trouble debugging one application, ASP.Net. I am currently
working on about 4 other projects right now and I am able to debug all
of these programs with no problems. I just see the red circle with
question and the tip says symbols were not loaded.

I used to be able to debug the one program in question up until a point,
VS.net (1.0), sort of locked up during a debug process. The debug
disabled all the debug commands and the program was stopped on a break
point. VS was still responding so I simply shut down the program and
restarted it. Since that time I can not debug that program, I have
three machines I work from and I can not debug from any machine.

One thing I have noticed is when the assembly dll for my project loads,
the debug symbols are not loaded. The debug symbol file has a dates the
time of the crash. Nothing I have tried also me to create a newer
version of the debug symbol file. I have even tried manually deleting
the file from the hard drive, bin directory and all and still I can not
get a proper symbol file built. =20

I have tried switching between release and debug builds but with no
success.
Pretty much, I have run out of ideas.

Anyone got a clue?

Hi Doug,

Well , I have had trouble like this a couple of times, and so have my
fellow collegues that are working on the same projects.
Last time we had it , the reason seemed to be that we had an aspx-page
that had two identical tags like : "<img src=xxx id=img1>"
with the same id ( in this case it was only on one page that the debug did
not work)
As soon as this was corrected it worked again.

Other times we had debug not working for an entire project. In those cases
we just removed the project from the solution and tried adding it (from
Visual SourceSafe) again, overwriting the previous, and luckily , it has
worked so far.

Hopes this helps

Ulf
