Possibly use a different web.config in each directory. Haven't tried this
but the theory suggests it should work.

You can only set this in the root directory web.config file, which means you
can only use one login page. You can use a separate web.config file in each
folder to allow/deny specific users, but you can only set the login page at
the root.
Your alternatives are to set up multiple applications (virtual roots) or
allow your login page to function differently according to the Querystring:
ReturnUrl.

Scott

nah, cause <authinication> tag can only go under the root. I've allready
tested that. You will get a parser error.

I believe you put the authenticated user list in the root web.config file and
authorized users in the web.config file in your subdirectories.
