Hi all,
I am trying to build a web based machine tracking system, but I am not sure
on how to go about it is there any way of find out or scanning a machine for
information such as what os its running software on the machine etc etc I
was thinking of using the diag class with a small app that runs on the
machine and sends info to the server this will all be run on a intranet so
eternal people would not be a problem.
Any ideas or this a limitation of ASP seeing that it is active SERVER pages
most of the processing runs on the server.
Any ideas help ?
Thanks
Carlos

Hey there.
Just a couple of little tips as I'm just rushing out the door =)
Check up Windows Management Instrument included in the platform SDK, I
haven't used it to its full potential but have used it to throw together
quick hacks for Server health and things like that

On the other hand, if you don't want ot reinvent the wheel with monitoring
software, give the Unicenter TNG Framework a look, its available for free
download from www.ca.com, if the downloads to be a little large, they'll
even send you out a copy. The Unicenter TNG FRamework relies on a series of
Agents that pick up system health on the systems they are responsible for,
including but not restricted to Servers, network printers, etc.
I believe the Mclaren Team even use Unicenter TNG for F1 racing feedback.
I've used it in the past to monitor CNC machinery.
my .02 pence

Incidentally Microsoft sells MOM (Microsoft Operations Manager) which
will capture events across a Windows based server farm. MOM is
significantly less money than Unicenter.
