Hi,

This seems to be too simple, but I have a real problem with it. The
rendering of the webpage complains with:

A DropDownList cannot have multiple items selected

and I have only one item selected!

I have many other pages with DDLs that are working and I just created
another one and I get the same error there too. Darn it, I know how to use
DDL's, what is going on?

I have a webpage where I have the ability to select an item from a grid, and
then, in the postback, I display the details for that item for edit. One of
the widgets is a dropdownlist. Whenever I select an Item in the grid that
causes a different item to be selected than which was previously selected in
the dropdownlist, I get the error:

A DropDownList cannot have multiple items selected

I only select one item , albeit a different one than that which was selected
before. The code behind section that selects the item gives no error, only
the rendering Do I have to clear the selection of the list first? If so,
how and why only on this page?

Here is the section:

private void user_Select(object
sender,System.Web.UI.WebControls.DataGridCommandEventArgs e)
{
string user = e.CommandArgument.ToString();
HopeAndHome.Components.User aUser = new
HopeAndHome.Components.User();
aUser.sUser = user;
DataTable aUserTable = aUser.Select();
if (aUserTable.Rows.Count > 0)
{
lblUser.Text = user;
btnRemoveUser.Visible = true;
btnUpdate.Visible = true;
btnDeleteLog.Visible = true;
DataRow myRow = aUserTable.Rows[0];
int id =
(int)myRow["Person_LegalEntity_Id"];
lblLegalEntityId.Text = id.ToString();
UserLog1.iLegalEntityId = id;
UserLog1.Visible = true;
txtUser.Text = (string)myRow["User"];
txtPassword.Text =
(string)myRow["Password"];
txtFullName.Text = (string)myRow["LastName"]
+ ", " + (string)myRow["FirstName"];

ddlRole.Items.FindByValue((string)myRow["Role"]).Selected = true;
}
}

[aspngdatagridrepeaterdatalist] Dropdownlist Rendering error PLEASE =
HELPHi Ben,

Thanks for even thinking about it. I have this posted now 4 times and no =
success.

It didn't work. I'm also not sure how this would result in a previous =
selection being "undone" and why my original solution works in some =
cases.

Your problem could be that instead of setting the SelectedIndex of the =
DDL, you are trying to make the Selected property True.

So I would suggest instead of doing it the way you are, to change it =
around and use the SelectedIndex property.

ddlRole.Items.FindByValue((string)myRow["Role"]).Selected =3D true;

Instead:

ListItem objItem =3D ddlRole.Items.FindByValue((string)myRow["Role"]);
ddlRole.SelectedIndex =3D ddlRole.Items.IndexOf(objItem);

Ben.
