I’m using host headers to access my site with completely different URL’s. Is
there a way to configure IIS or ASP.NET to use a different application for
some host headers?
On my dev machine I use virtual folders to create a similar effect as host
headers (i.e. different URL’s pointing to one folder), and that way I can
set each up as a different app. I can’t see any way to do it with host
headers though.
What I’d love is this behavior:
URL Application
http://a.net
<
http://a.net
/> a
http://www.a.net
<
http://www.a.net
/> a
http://b.net
<
http://b.net
/> b
http://www.b.net
<
http://www.b.net
/" target="_blank">
http://www.b.net
/> b
Any ideas, even if I have to code it?

Maybe I misunderstand your question, but why not just set up different
IIS site instances and point them to the appropriate app based on the
host headers?
Given your example below, I'd just create 2 IIS site instances.
one would grab anything going to Application 'a' (a.net, www.a.net, etc)
and point it to the folder with app A in it, and same idea with b.
Unless I completely misunderstand what you mean when you say "different
applications" Do you mean the same code, only running as different
applications?

James, maybe I'm misunderstanding your question, but if you set up a two different sites in IIS using host headers, then couldn't you just run app a on site a and app b on site b?

No, that's a reasonable question. I left one important point out - there
will eventually be hundreds or thousands of host headers on this site.
Already there are 80.
I only have one site, one set of code. At the moment, all host headers are
running under the same application name. I'm trying to see if there is a way
to associate an app name with a host header. It would just save me time when
I added a new header rather than setting up a new site each time.
By the way, how many host headers is a reasonable maximum for a site? ;-)

Maybe I misunderstand your question, but why not just set up different IIS
site instances and point them to the appropriate app based on the host
headers?
Given your example below, I'd just create 2 IIS site instances.
one would grab anything going to Application 'a' (a.net, www.a.net
<
http://www.a.net
> , etc) and point it to the folder with app A in it, and
same idea with b.
Unless I completely misunderstand what you mean when you say "different
applications" Do you mean the same code, only running as different
applications?

I'm using host headers to access my site with completely different URL's. Is
there a way to configure IIS or ASP.NET to use a different application for
some host headers?
On my dev machine I use virtual folders to create a similar effect as host
headers (i.e. different URL's pointing to one folder), and that way I can
set each up as a different app. I can't see any way to do it with host
headers though.
What I'd love is this behavior:
URL Application
http://a.net
<
http://a.net

http://www.a.net
<
http://www.a.net

http://b.net

http://b.net
/> b
http://www.b.net

Any ideas, even if I have to code it?

Messageyou can associate more than one host header with an IIS instance.
I'm not sure if this is what you're already doing, but it could help out.
