I just installed the full VS .NET (in addition to my existing Visual Studio v 6) and I want to use VC++. When I try to create a New Project (.NET), I get the error message: "the operation could not be completed". This does not happen when I try to create other projects that are not .NET (for example ATL or MFC). I have re-installed everything again, but the same error appears. The installation completes successfully.

I am using Win2000 Professional.

Please help.

Paul.

Check with windows scripting host in your machine. if you have a corrupted/incomptible windows scripting host, your VS.NET may not be able to create any project item.

Install the latest windows scripting host from

http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/webdev.asp

I have same problem, but VS is installed on Windows 2003 server, so the windows scripting update cannot be installed. There is any way to force the installation of scripting engine on 2003 server to see if this resolve my problem?

Thanks.

Thanks Sudhakar,
After reply of paul I decided to try forcing installation of windows scripting host.
I manually deregistred old installation, uncompress installation file of Windows Scripting Host 5.6 and register again WSH5.6 version.
Version that was present on my system was newer, file has higher date. Now Visual studio works again....but I really do not know if I had broke other parts forcing a different version....but since I use only VS and Office this is fine for me.

Thanks again for your suggestion.

* How did you deregister the old installation?
Which DLLs, which registry settings,...?

* Where did you find the "correct" WSH Which works fine now?

Hi Sudhakar,
I have the same problem with VS.NET 2003 on my XP Home. I downloaded WSH 5.6
from M$ and installated the Windows Script 5.6 again. But without success.
How can I deinstall the current WSH 5.6 completly and manually to reinstall
than a complete new WSH 5.6?
R.

Hi,

thanks for you suggestion which solved my problem also. In my case it was
clearly due to a corrupted WHS, given that until recently everything was
working fine. I'd be curious to know what are the likely causes of such
corruption.

Thanks,

Mauro Ciaccio
