I'm not particularly convinced by this guy's argument that it's an
"either/or" thing with Java and .NET and that those who make the wrong
decision are doomed. I think there's space in the market for both platforms
and that technologies like SOAP and XML make their coexistence possible.
What do you think?

Interesting read, but the only thing Java has going for it right now is
portability (IMO). Something that .NET could have if Microsoft really
wanted it. Case in point the FreeDSB version of the CLR...
Sure it is for Academic use only, but it demonstrates the possibility. With
the multitude of language offerings Microsoft could kill Java in one fell
swoop. Course someone would cry foul...
You are correct however that SOAP and XML are key to coexistence. This
guy's argument falls apart when he says that web services need the same
technology on both ends to be reliable.
