Most of the discussion on this list is focused around the beta release
of the .NET My Services SDK released at the PDC. Unfortunately most of
us with the SDK do not have passport working because our SDK's don't use
it, I doubt you will get a lot of help with a current passport
implementation on this list until more people have implemented passport
to take advantage of the Service Fabric. Have you tried posting in the
public Microsoft Passport newsgroups? That is probably the best method
of support.

Because your issues is probably a configuration issue (1/2 working is
almost always a config issue) you might want to fully document your
implementation so you can get a better response if you post the problem
to the public newsgroups.

Please allow me a basic question...
My understanding is that you have to pay 10,000 USD per year for a site to
be enabled to use passport. By the same token, I read (few) casual messages
about people considering this option like it is no big deal.

Am I in the wrong income tax bracket for this list?

Appreciate your coments on the cost to implement passport...

There isn't all that much information out there at the moment, but here
is what there is: -

From http://www.passport.com/Business/JoinPassportNetwork.asp?lc=3D2057

"Passport intends to charge a nominal annual license fee to service
operators. For details go to http://www.microsoft.com/myservices.";

Also from here http://www.microsoft.com/myservices/passport/faq.asp

"Contract Details=20

Q. Why does .NET Passport require a contract?=20
=20
A. The non-exclusive contract helps us to ensure that your site adheres
to privacy and security guidelines that protect .NET Passport users'
personal information. For example, we require all participating sites to
post a privacy statement on their home pages, and we strongly encourage
all sites to register with an independent, industry-recognized,
privacy-assurance body like TRUSTe or BBBOnLine (the online division of
the Better Business Bureau).

Q. What kind of service level agreement does .NET Passport offer?=20
=20
A. Microsoft designed .NET Passport to be an extremely scalable, robust
system. Many of Microsoft's Internet services rely on .NET Passport, and
more will over time. The .NET Passport architecture includes specific
features to ensure that there is no single point of failure for the .NET
Passport Single Sign In service, and we plan to continue increasing its
already high overall reliability. .NET Passport has also invested
significantly in operations procedures and tools to ensure fast,
accurate troubleshooting in the unlikely event of a service outage.

Q. Does the use of .NET Passport Single Sign In and .NET Passport
Express Purchase require exclusivity?=20
=20
A. No. Any Web site can use .NET Passport concurrently with any other
technology. But in the long term, we think the value of using .NET
Passport along with other .NET services will provide the most value to
your business."

And now a word from our sponsor....

It currently costs $10,000/year to license Single Sign-In, with a $1,500
certification fee per application. Express Purchase is free to license.

We are in the process of structuring a reduced fee offering for smaller
scale applications. We estimate that this entry level fee will be in the
region of $1000 annually with a $250 certification fee per application. We
are driving to get such a program in place this spring, initially for the
test environment and later for production environment access.
